Overview
POSCO E&C, a subsidiary of POSCO Holdings, is responsible for environmentally friendly infrastructure. It specializes in the design, procurement, and construction of industrial plants, including steelmaking facilities, power plants, renewable energy facilities, and green hydrogen or battery manufacturing plants, not only in South Korea but also worldwide.
Waste to Electricity solution
The TYRANNOSAURUS® technology line, supplied to POSCO E&C and implemented in Pohang, South Korea, is designed to treat municipal solid waste (MSW) generated from surrounding areas and convert it into high-quality solid recovered fuel (SRF).
This SRF is then directly utilized in an integrated power plant employing Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) technology to simultaneously produce steam for industrial processes and electricity for operational use.
The POSCO waste treatment complex is designed with a highly compact configuration, optimizing spatial layout and capital investment costs, allowing it to be installed in close proximity to the power plant.
With only a single production line, the system is capable of processing up to 40 tons of waste per hour, sufficient to supply the entire SRF fuel demand for the continuous operation of the power plant, thereby enhancing resource efficiency and promoting an environmentally friendly infrastructure development model.
